Margaret was born in Townsville and after residing in Canberra for many years she relocated to Brisbane in 2004 to live close to her family. Margaret commenced art lessons with Canberra Pastel Artist Judy McConchie in 1988. Pastel was not widely used by artists at this time and she was captivated how the medium was able to interpret light and sensitivity simply by the stroke of a pastel stick.
Margaret has resided in Malta, Peru and the Netherlands for periods of several years and draws inspiration from these places as well as the Australian landscape. Still life and flora also among her favourite subjects.Margaret is a traditional artist and paints in oil and pastel. Light and atmosphere is her passion and it is the pastel medium which enables her to translate this effect with subtlety. She has a special connection with the South American environment where she lived for several years and her interpretation of Peruvian tradition reflects the deep sensitivity she feels for this region. She visited Peru again in November 2005 and rekindled her affection for this culture.
Margaret has won many Awards and has had several solo and group exhibitions. She has also had articles published in the Australian Artist Magazine. She is a member of The Pastel Society of Australia and The Queensland Art Society. Whilst living in Canberra, Margaret was a regular exhibitor at the Canberra Times Outdoor Art Show and featured as a guest artist on several occasions. She was awarded Master Pastellist status from the Pastel Society of Australia in July 2009.Margaret resides in The Gap, Qld and has a gallery at her home which may be viewed by appointment.
