Liz Mason is a local artist from Mount Tamborine. She has loved to draw and paint since childhood. At the end of her secondary schooling, she won 3 Art scholarships, a commercial art scholarship, a fine art scholarship, and a scholarship to teach art in schools. Liz chose instead to follow a career school teaching.Life’s twists and turns brought Liz the opportunity to rekindle her passion for art.
In 2003, she began studying with Janet Skinner, a well known artist from Samford, Brisbane. In 2007, Liz moved to beautiful Tamborine Mountain: a perfect environment to explore her passion for painting and drawing the amazing Australian landscapes from which she gains enormous inspiration.To continue her art study, Liz joined the Tamborine Mountain Creative Arts, Monday Afternoon Art Group. This group, which is tutored by Stephen Buntrock, an internationally recognized Artist and an Art Teacher /Tutor at the Gold Coast Art School, provides a kinship with other like-minded artists. Early 2011, Liz began studying under Louise Corke, Master Pastelist of Australia.
Through Louise’s teachings Liz is being constantly challenged in taking risks in the exploration art of her pastel painting, as well as learning sound techniques and principles.Although Liz is comfortable painting in oils, watercolour and acrylics, her passion is in pastel painting. She is influenced by the French Impressionists but her greatest inspiration if from the amazing Australian landscape and the wildlife within it. She paints various subject matters including portraits of animals and people, landscapes, seascapes, and still life. Over the past 2 years, Liz as been working on different series such as The Rainforests Floor, Australian Woodlands, and Bush Tracks.
