Graeme has been painting for thirty five years. He started of using oils and spent three years in formal training with Sandy Baker in Frankston, Victoria. Mrs. Baker was a hard task master apparently, specialising in traditional, very detailed art. The training has stayed with Graeme who still paints in a very traditional, detailed style, mainly landscapes. With a young family and a growing business in the financial services sector, Graeme had to curtail his artistic endeavours somewhat. Once the family had grown and with the business well established, he started painting again. Having recently moved, with wife Barbara, to the Sunshine Coast, Graeme is back to painting full time again. Graeme is a member of "Friends of the Gallery", Pastel Society of Australia and CACA and is keeping very busy. Graeme recently formed a group, inviting selected artists to join him. Called Artists Alliance Australia, they have established a very comprehensive website to promote their work and offer a wide range of mediums and styles. Graeme has been busy organising their first Exhibition in collaboration with the Kenilworth Arts Council, the exhibition will be held in Kenilworth on the 28th June till 1st July. Graeme and Barbara have made their home in Currimundi, Caloundra.
As my bio states, I have been painting for about thi.rty five years. I started in oils and still revert to this medium on occasion, but these days I use primarily pastel. My formal training was in oils for three years under Sandy Baker in Victoria. Her training still dictates the way I use colour and paint. I have had no formal training in pastels. I am (and probably always will be) a traditionalist. I do not see a need to revert to expressionist or abstract ideas, I prefer to represent nature "as is", in other words, as Mother Nature presents herself. I love colour. The colours of the sky, of clouds, foliage, etc. are countless. I love sunrises, sunsets, rivers, streams and tranquil settings. Anything that showcases nature to the fullest. I have successfully exhibited in various art shows. I took out first prize in my first show in Melbourne and have been fortunate to take awards in quite a few others since, most recently in Redcliffe and Brisbane. I am currently organising the first Exhibition for Artists Alliance Australia to be held in Kenilworth in June. I hope to enjoy success there as well.
